Our Vision

Sliding Rock Farm is our attempt to confront the food access crisis that our community faces. In Henry County, VA where the farm is located, the life expectancy is significantly lower than the Virginia state average. In 2024, we forged a partnership with the Henry County Food Pantry (HCFP), a longstanding organization that provides critical food access services in our region.

We are working with HCFP to establish a small food hub in their warehouse which will purchase food from local farms and distribute it to the community at no-or-low cost. We are actively fundraising for this initiative.

Our vision is that residents of Henry County have access to affordable, healthy, local food. We also hope to cultivate the sense of community that is often offered by local food systems. Compared to surrounding areas such as Roanoke, Greensboro, Floyd, or the Triangle, our region does not have a particularly robust small farm scene, which makes this work all the more important.
